Design deals with the world of appearances. Design is an integral part of the sensual world, i.e. the world of form. It is here where the symbolic power of design is first recognized. When we focus upon the world of form we subscribe to perceiving the universe with our senses. In this fashion we create our own realm filled with appearances, which are in themselves very illusionary.
The world of appearances is a transitory one. The world of appearances is also an integral part of a design consciousness. Why? Design is silently cloaked in the essence of all forms and appearances. Qualities that exist in support of these images are merely reflections of a common essence/spirit. We are naturally attracted to forms and appearances that reflect our own quintessence.
Many lessons can be learned about ourselves by pondering upon which forms we are attracted. Symbolically they reveal certain qualities about ourselves made in reference to a mystery that surrounds our very being.
A designer "observes" the world of form and appearances. Design’s symbolic power allows us to discover our inner convictions for ourselves. The realization that all form is merely a temporal exercise is key in discovering the source from which our sense of being emanates. Design allows us to expand our point of view beyond our sense of form and into the mystery of our own consciousness.
