Emerging from the birthing chamber created by the Vesica Piscis and the four-sided configuration (square) that preceded it is the five-sided pentad. The single point of the pentagram that points upward represents the life force as spirit, while the pentad’s other four elements, i.e. earth, air, fire and water, are given locations at the four lower positions. Together all five “elements” give relative form to what has been described as Life.
Conscious awareness has transformed into yet another universe, a realm of assorted formative experiences arranged and morphologically described as human. The pentad symbolizes humanity through the expression of its five senses and five extremities, along with the power to generate other qualified intonations stemming from a single unknown primeval Source.
The original force that appears to be hidden within the principled confines of the tetrad is likewise apparent in the fifth element of the pentad. It is the same primitive power that mediated and supervised the transition of energy from virtual substance into relative form, thereby transforming its own consciousness from one matrix into another, from principled formlessness (triad) into a measurable form (pentad).
The conscious life force being projected beyond the confines of the unknown becomes animated through the shape, construction and geometry of the pentad. This primal Source shares its’ being-ness and likeness with all forms created within the constraints of its own particular field of influence. Virtual substances partake in this process through the birthing (incommensurable) and growing (measuring) of this evolutionary consciousness. Humanity embodies this universal quintessence.
In essence, each and every one of us is a star, a microcosmic expression of the one universal agency that permeates all relative “substance” whether it is in a virtual “state” or not. The top point of the pentad represents this force as spirit, the force designed to rule over the lower elements that give it form and expression in a relatively material world.
At this point consciousness has been fragmented into five distinct elements that together create and give relative form to an evolutionary stage of awareness fundamentally prescribed to observe its own identifiable experiences within the “objective” world of form. This particular circumstance identifies what could only be described as an attainment of self-consciousness. All formations of energy, e.g. minerals, plants, animals and similarly the human species “qualify” this concept of self-awareness. Each expression is in a fashion, comparatively similar to the imaginings of those forces supporting and creating them.
Separate from the Principles surrounding the creation of the triad, the concept of duality returns to form an awareness of both the subjective (spirit) and the objective (material) worlds. Eventually consciousness becomes aware of its’ underlining subconscious, an awareness that has been intimately experienced in the search for balance between the seen and the unseen, the known and the unknown, the light and the dark.
As can be seen in the shape of the pentad, spirit is located above the elements of matter. Harmony is experienced through an internal awareness subjectively described as the true spirit, i.e. an essence, integrated within the design of each form. For humanity these experiences are communicated symbolically by means of design and contained within the conscious constraints of our awareness and imagination.
The evolutionary process implied in the pentagram describes the continuation of an increasingly complex journey. The conscious transformation of a greater awareness continues to enable its desires by the creation of vehicles of comparable being-ness. The digestion, assimilation and transmutation of this unknown consciousness is made self aware through its creations.
This phase is mandatory if any transformation of awareness is to be made conscionable and/or capable to further contribute to a greater self-awareness. This Life process is facilitated by design and is the basic impetus behind the concept of change.
The element of earth represents material substances, i.e. the matter required to discover, configure and mirror the spirit of the creator into its most appropriate forms. Nourishment, growth, security, foundation and the capacity to continue to experience awareness through form and matter are the concepts that symbolically characterize the element earth.
Another point on the pentagram represents air. Air is symbolic of the mind. The mind is a critical player in the experiencing of consciousness. Air gives expression to the purpose of design, which is to direct the thoughts, intelligence and reasoning power of the mind towards the examination of spirit through conscious experience.
The grounding of consciousness is made manifest by the element of earth and the transformation of relative substance. The mind allows consciousness to expand, attend self-consciousness and bring “spiritual awareness" into being. The mind allows self-consciousness to contemplate upon the power of the spirit thereby raising awareness through the experience.
The element of water is located at yet another point on the pentad symbolizing the concept of emotion. Emotions validate humanity as a sentient being engulfed with feelings that correspond with the unseen. As much as the mind (air) appears purposeful, when perceived in conjunction with the will (fire) the emotions are themselves become meaningful. As discussed earlier, the concept of kama-manas illustrates the relationship between the mind and the emotions while prescribing itself as the design tool of self-awareness.
Self-consciousness allows our emotions the opportunity to learn, understand and share the motives (will) behind the creations that internally and externally contribute to our being. Our emotions likewise allow us to experience the extremes of understanding in the forms of anger and love, joy and sadness. Along with our will we temper our mind with our emotions to learn about our own consciousness and why we feel the way we do.
The element of fire represents the will to express the awareness of spirit into all that is created. The fire of the mind (air) and emotions (water) brought into conjunction with the firing of substance (earth), will bring into cognizance and fruition the duality of a greater consciousness (spirit) making itself conscionable. At this juncture a systemic awareness is mirrored into the creation of every form of energy fashioned in time and space.
A pentad drawn within a circle unites all the elements required of humanity to maintain and perpetuate the sequential appearance of a single conscious awareness originating from one universal agency.
Five-ness implies that consciousness has now moved into a new direction and therefore a new dimension. Five-ness is part of ten-ness (decad) and is instrumental in finalizing a particular octave, or systemic matrix of awareness. Five-ness can be separated into composites of individual one-ness, which appears at the source of the entire system.
Five-ness transcends the elements that contribute to nature’s consciousness, thereby changing the “field” in which awareness (oneness, source) can express itself. Through change, five-ness gives life to an awareness of self that rests within the illusionary confines of the ego. Five-ness brings change to the whole by creating “situations” that challenge the stability given conscious expression by means of the tetrad (square). Five-ness disrupts order through change, which can be either positive or negative and is characteristic to this type of awareness.
The ego is challenged by the changes that appear before it. What may at first appear to be deceptive in character is the self upsetting the ego’s normal experiences in exchange for a kind of chaotic equality and an unavoidable struggle between two levels of awareness.
“The vibration of 5 is about acting on, daring to, embracing the non-conventional, and living the unpredictable. The 5 energy is pragmatic yet opportunistic and persuasive. This force is a natural detective; very intellectual, investigative and imaginative. The 5 possesses a strong vibrational frequency mixed with strong characteristics like: freedom-seeking, pioneering, innovation, adventure, and most of all: change.” Gillian Macbeth-Louthan
