Reboot 2020

IN THE TIME OF PANDEMIC

And the people stayed home. And they read books, and listened, and rested, and exercised, and made art, and played games, and learned new ways of being, and were still. And they listened more deeply. Some meditated, some prayed, some danced. Some met their shadows. And the people began to think differently.
And the people healed. And, in the absence of people living in ignorant, dangerous, mindless, and heartless ways, the earth began to heal.
And when the danger passed, and the people joined together again, they grieved their losses, and made new choices, and dreamed new images, and created new ways to live, and they healed the earth fully, as they had been healed.

The term 'reboot' is closely related to the term 'boot'. We use the term 'boot' when we want to describe the process where the computer is powered on and the very first program i.e. the bootloader program starts and then a series of processes start running afterwards. 'Reboot' is to make the computer do those steps again freshly.
When you reboot your computer, all the processes which are currently residing in your RAM are wiped off, the RAM is cleaned up and then the computer takes a fresh start. Fresh start means loading up the bootloader program again and every further process is started again freshly.

Booting or rebooting refers to an old term that goes way back.  Picking yourself up by your boot straps is slang for starting over.
When you start or restart a computer, there is a resetting  pulse generated that resets everything in main memory, completely clearing it out. The address bus also resets to all zeros. The first few addresses in your computer are reserved for the BIOS, and the BIOS will only be accessed before the OS starts loading.

"Anthropologists have often described what happens to a primitive society when its spiritual values are exposed to the impact of modern civilization. Its people lose the meaning of their lives, their social organization disintegrates, and they themselves morally decay. We are now in the same condition. But we have never really understood what we have lost, for our spiritual leaders unfortunately were more interested in protecting their institutions than in understanding the mystery that symbols present."
Carl Jung
